The Dead Sea is a very rare location where there are innumerable findings that have been serving the mankind in one or the other way. Being a very historical place, the Dead Sea is among the very few places in the world which has got its presence in The Bible. Exploration of the sea and its surroundings has brought forth a lot of rare discoveries.

The basic and the most useful among the discoveries is the discovery of the presence of minerals and salts in the sea. These minerals have been of very high medicinal value and have been in the common use for the cure of a lot of skin diseases. They also help in maintaining the texture and quality of the skin. The salts present here help to increase the blood circulation of the human body and also relieve muscular pain when treated with the correct percentage. Besides, these are used extensively in the manufacture of cosmetics.

Dead Sea mud is another useful discovery with a very high medicinal value and therapeutic features. It is believed that immersing the legs in the mud on its sea beds can remove wrinkles and irritation. The mud, like the minerals and salts, are used in the treatment of a lot of skin diseases. Also, the shrubs and herbs around the sea like Balsam are used for incense and perfumes.

A historic discovery related to Dead Sea is the discovery of the Dead Sea scrolls which initially formed a collection of the manuscripts from the book of Isaiah from The Bible. These ancient scrolls were discovered sixty years back in the caves near the sea. The scrolls were rolled up in leather and packed tightly in clothes which have helped in its existence for a thousand years. Following the discovery of the first scrolls, the archaeologists were able to discover more and more scrolls which were all from the old testament of The Bible. It was later discovered that the scrolls had traces of castor oil which helped in preserving them.

Later on, wide-mouthed jars which contained a lot of manuscripts were discovered. These were buried in the floors of the caves near the Dead Sea. Examination of the unique jars showed that these belonged to the periods close to Jesus Christ. These jars are now preserved in the museum as very safe antiques.

Another remarkable finding from the Dead Sea explorations is the discovery of phylacteries which are small capsules enclosed inside leather thongs. These preserved text and manuscripts from the Exodus and Deuteronomy of The Bible.
